About Us
ARDAR was established in 1990 by Dr.V.V.Ramana with a grit to serve the poor and needy. He himself is an eminent sociologist who has worked with many a institutes and bought forward many original books and research papers.He has also worked for the improvement of slums in Visakhapatnam by using participatory methodologies and solved several legal and social issues in the slums of Visakhapatnam. He has further worked in independent research projects (UGC; Indo-Swiss Project; Indo Dutch Fellowship through HUDCO etc.). He is one of the PRA professionals in India and helped Govt. of AP in planning and operationalisation of PWCUP (Participatary Water Conservation and Utilisation Plan). ARDAR is located in Vizianagaram Town and Poosapati Rega in Vizianagaram district and working in two backward districts (Vizianagaram and Srikakulam) of AP. ARDAR is registereded under Societies Registration Act in 1990 (No. 64/1990) at Vizianagaram and registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India under FCRA (FCRA No.: 010350051).
Vision and Mission
THE VISION: ARDAR works towards building up self sustained communities with widening thought and action to move forward. The MISSION: ARDAR exists *to work with backward communities,to empower people to overcome exploitation, *to improve the health status of the poor and needy,to provide opportunities for sustainable development *to improve socio-economic conditions of women *to improve health and education of children to achieve overall growth and development *to improve the health and security of old age people and *to take up research and action research projects
Development Works
ARDAR has started its work in 1990 as and when it registered as an organisation. The following are the Projects or Works taken up by the organization.
  1. Study of marine fishing villages – A detailed in depth study of all the 19 marine fishing villages of Vizianagaram district. The study has helped to initiate programs in these villages. (Agency supported for the study: Indo German Social Service Society) 1990
  2. Women and Development – a one year program in 6 agricultural villages of Poosapati Rega mandal of Vizianagaram district. ARDAR has learned several lessons and gained field experiences. (Agency supported: IGSSS) 1991
  3. Small initiatives in 7 marine fishing villages of Poosapati Rega mandal of Vizianagaram district – initiation of work in marine fishing villages – a 1-year project. (Agency supported: IGSSS) 1992
  4. SIDA (Small Initiatives in Development Action) project in another 6 marine fishing villages of Poosapati Rega mandal of Vizianagaram district – a one-year project. (Agency supported: Gandhi Peace Center) 1992-93
  5. Study of Toddy Tapers of Vizianagaram – A detailed in depth study of all the toddy tapping communities of Poosapati Rega and Bhogapuram mandals of Vizianagaram. (Supported by: IGSSS) 1991
  6. Long Term Sponsorship Project – The project is for 10 years from 1994-2003 in all-19 marine fishing villages in Vizianagaram district. A sustainable development program covering Group Organization, Economic Improvement, Education and Health. (Agency Supported: ACTIONAID)
  7. Marine Pollution and Livelihood – a 1 year project in 12 marine fishing villages in Ranasthalam mandal of Srikakulam district. (Agency Supported: ACTIONAID) 1999
  8. ARDAR has registered a Mutually Aided Co-operative in October 1999 for women in Vizianagaram district for taking up banking and members welfare activities. The co-operative is with a membership of 6668 covering 61 villages in 5 mandals in Vizianagaram district.
  9. ARDAR has also taken up the responsibility of running 86 NFE centres in 5 mandals (allocated by Zilla Saksharatha Samithi, Vizianagaram) viz. Vizianagaram Urban, Vizianagaram Rural, Bondapalli, Garividi and Cheepuripalli from April 2000-March 2001.
  10. Two child labour schools are allotted to ARDAR by NATIONAL Child Labour Project, Vizianagaram at Raghumanda in Denkada mandalam and at Mukkam in Bhogapuram mandalam in Vizianagaram district. The Centres are started in the year 2000. These centres are stopped after the academic year. In June 2001, 9 centres are allotted in 2 mandals viz. Bhogapuram and Vizianagram Urban mandals.
  11. Community Preparedness and Disaster Mitigation Project in 11 marine fishing villages of Srikakulam district with the support of OXFAM from March 2001.
  12. URBAN HEALTH CENTRE at in a Vizianagaram slum covering about 20000 population sanctioned by the District Collector under World Bank supported Andhra Pradesh Urban Slum Health Care Project from June 2001.
  13. Capacity Buildings Programmes for CCPAs and Sales Men OF GIRIJAN COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES, in 2 districts (Srikakulam and Vizianagaram). Project by NISIET (an organisation of the Ministry of SSI & ARI, Government of India) May 2001.
