CRIME AGAINST WOMEN CELL
Crimes Against Women Cells are special cells set up by the police force which takes up cases related to violence against women, including matrimonial disputes.
These cells attempt to help resolve disputes between the couple or settle the matter through mutual consent, and thus prevent the woman from having to go through lengthy legal procedures.
The Crimes Against Women cells also network with agencies working with women (both government and private) and legal aid cells, and often refer the women who come to them to these organisations for counselling, temporary accommodation and legal aid.
There are 10 Crimes Against Women cells all over Delhi i.e., one in each district police station.
TELEPHONE HELPLINES
Telephone Helplines are a relatively new concept in India. Various helplines have become operational in different parts of the country and are catering to different needs of people.
Purpose: To disseminate information, provide immediate and long-term counselling and referral facilities.
Types: Specific-focus on specific area/s such as reproductive/ sexual health, HIV/AIDS. gay issues, mental health, etc.
There are a number of advantages of telephone helplines. With the telephone, physical and geographical barriers to help and support can be reduced. Many more people can access services that might otherwise would be expensive, inconvenient, embarrassing etc. Information/counselling/referral is just a phone call away.
The Crimes Against Women cell of the Delhi Police has set up a 'Helpline' in coordination with the Police Control Room (PCR) for women in distress. Women police operators have been trained to handle calls related to matrimonial disputes, molestation, eve-teasing, rape and child abuse.
