Dear Friends
It has been a pleasure for me to bring to you information relating to empowerment of women, children and elderly as well as issues relating to it – problems, programmes, successes and failures in India for the past seven years since the inception of Sandesh. We also have been bringing you news about empowerment especially of women from all over the world, thanks to WURN which has been sending us information for almost two years now.
I am glad to know that the website has been useful for almost 100,000 people who have used the information. However, I have one regret, while we have done our best to bring the best to you, your contribution to make the web site more participatory has not been encouraging for us. But we will continue to serve you as long as we can !
We have been thinking to bring to you, as to how far, almost six decades of economic development in India and the world over has facilitated empowerment of women. In India the progress has been captured with very good supporting data by the volume published by National Commission for Women “ Women’s Equality 1971-2001 prepared by Dr. Sarla Gopalan. We shall bring to you the data as and when relevant. In this issue our focus is more global.
We hope you will enjoy reading the material collected painstakingly exclusively for you.
But please do give us at least a feed back.
Happy Reading.
With best wishes
Kamla Nath
