Clean Drinking Water

SarvSandeshIndia under it's welfare programmes for woman and children has one of the objective of providing safe and Clean Drinking Water to all poor families within five meters of their dwellings.
SarvSandeshIndia a registered NGO is devoted to facilitate information sharing among NGOs about themselves their experiences in the field of welfare work among women, children and elderly and provides information on sources of funds for the programmes. It also identifies people's needs in rural and urban areas and provides a forum to discuss need-based issues of civil society for health, education, employment and entrepreneurship development. It also brings into focus major national issues like equality, population, and good governance to name some.
Under our focus on health in our experience in rural and urban health infrastructure, availability of clean water has emerged the most important health concern. Availability of clean water and in abundance can provide important preventive input against water borne diseases and major reduction in health costs.
In urban areas the provision of clean water is hampered partly due to old water supply infrastructure and partly due to contamination of source of water supply where most of the wastewater from cities is being dumped. Efforts of municipal bodies to clean this water have never been foolproof. Efforts need to be made to divert inflow of wastewater into separate channels than the one from where drinking water is being supplied. The current sources of water supply also need to be cleaned by foolproof cleaning technologies. Additional sources of water supply will also have to be explored to meet the increase in water needs of growing population.
In rural areas large majority of villages do not have any safe piped drinking water supply. Large majority of the rural population depends on wells for drinking water. And water from small ponds that fill up during the rains as a source of water for bathing and washing of clothes. Animals also use the same pond water for drinking and bathing. Many rural people suffer from water borne diseases that include several skin diseases.
While exploring new sources of drinking water is essential use of water cleaning technologies could solve the health problems related to water borne diseases. We at Sarv SandeshIndia are exploring possibilities of developing a clean drinking water project for a selected sample of urban and rural population. Several development department of Government of India and international donor agencies would support such an important initiative from a non-government organization. After successful implementation of the project in selected areas Sarv SandeshIndia will propagate the use of tried technologies in as many villages as possible in collaboration with ngos working in each area.
Currently we are exploring interest of various funding agencies to fund such a project and availability of technical experts - chemical engineers and water experts in joining Sarv SandeshIndia in developing a programme for the purpose.
We shall be thankful for your interest if sent to us through our web site www.sandesh.org or by email to sandesh@sandesh.org or at knath1@yahoo.com .
