MUMBAI: An 11-year-old girl from Kanjurmarg was raped by her
tuition teacher on Sunday afternoon.
The accused, 33-year-old Satish Kumar Kanhaiya Sharma, a resident of
Swayambhoo Chawl in Shivkripa Nagar, Kanjurmarg, was arrested on Tuesday night.
The victim, Sarita (name changed), a resident of a slum in Kanjurmarg,
took tuitions from Sharma along with five other children.
She is a Std V student of a school in Vikhroli.
On Sunday, Sharma asked her to come to his house alone for tuitions,
saying he would give her personal attention.
"We were very happy to send her as we thought she would get to study more,
and get special attention," said Sarita's mother.
However, when she entered his house, he bolted the door and began showing her books
with pornographic photographs.
He then forced her to lie down and raped her. All the while,
he threatened her with dire consequences if she shouted or told anyone about
the incident.
But when the girl got home, she mustered up the courage to tell her mother.
The mother told her father about it the next day. "We went to the police station
on Tuesday to file a complaint," said Sarita's father, who runs a laundry.
The accused was booked for molestation and rape of a minor and taken into custody
on Tuesday night.
Despite the ordeal, a day after the incident, the girl managed to sit
for her school examination.
On Wednesday, both the victim and the accused were sent for medical tests at
the Nagpada hospital. "She could not sit for the examination that day,
" said her father.
"The medical examination showed that her private parts were not ruptured as
Sharma was not able to penetrate completely," said Rahim Shaikh, senior police inspector from Kanjurmarg.
In his statement to the police, Sharma has denied that he raped her,
saying he "only kissed her".
